When Fear Becomes Control

I pay attention to everyone around me at all times.  I can tell if someone is tired, or mad, happy or troubled.  People give away what is in their heart and never realize they do it.  This is sometimes called human nature.  In my study of the human psyche, it’s most interesting to me when I see fear in someone’s eyes.  Without even second guessing themselves they go into a defensive posture and start lashing out at people around them, more often than most, the ones they love.  Love then has a tendency to outweigh the hatred, and given enough time, can sometime forgive.  Unfortunately fear over time creates more fear and this causes the person to withdraw and become distant, until they wake up and all is wrong, everything is a problem and the world is against them.  I have the cure and its being offered to you by the very person that you lash out at when your fear causes you the most grief.  It is Love and here is the definition according to the Bible:

1 Corinthians 13

Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part. 10 But when that which is perfect has come, then that which is in part will be done away.11 When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things. 12 For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known.13 And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.

It seems as if Love is a cure for all things that posture us for fear.  You can personally benefit from the understanding of the Fathers love.  As your walk increases, you will see that God never intended for us to live in fear.  Yes, we should fear or respect God, but that is not why God created us.  God loves each and every one of us and fear is only created to cause separation from the Father.

1 John 4 The Consummation of Love

17 Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness in the Day of Judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world. 18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love. 19 We love Him[b] because He first loved us.

The enemy only desires to create division not only between us, but between the Father and all of his children.  Today, remember that love can cure every problem that you have.  Not necessarily correcting the circumstance, but as you overcome the fear that is laminated over your life, you will see that all things belong to God and by giving your problems to the Father , it can take away the fear that comes with the difficult scenario.  Everything is replaceable, but we get but a brief time here to enjoy the life that God has given us.  Make the most of it and love those around you.

Psalm 23:4

New King James Version (NKJV)

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil;
For You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

God Loves You!!!!

Today I decided that I am tired of taking from this world!!!

Today I decided that I am tired of taking from this world.  As my walk with God grows deeper, I see more and more people “taking” around me and less giving back.  I have heard all of the catch phrases: “It’s Better to Give, Than to Receive”, “Give More and you will be Blessed More”, “Giving Makes a Heart Joyful”.  I know that these phrases might sound warm, and for those that give when they hear this, Bless you…..but it shouldn’t be something we do only to make ourselves feel better for a moment, it should be a way of life that resides in us, and a compassion that exists – passed on from God.  When we stood there in our desperate moment with our hands in the air begging for God’s help, were we not comforted?  Was God’s love not so freely given that even the darkest moment could not mask the light of Heaven?  Some of us have a tendency to forget these things and go about our lives as if it never happened.  Interestingly enough, I see people that I know, men and women who were on the bottom at one point in their lives, now looking down on the people that are in need of help, in that  very place they came from.  Jesus speaks on giving in Mark 12: 41 –  Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts.  42 But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a fraction of a penny. 43 Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, “I tell you the truth, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others  44 They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything—-all she had to live on.

Giving isn’t monetary, it also resources.  Why do we hoard up resources that we don’t need or hold no real value that others around us so desperately need?  Why has Christianity become so selfish?  Imagine a world where we all worked together and we all gave freely to each other so that anxiety and fear was removed from our lives.  If anxiety and fear did not exist, anything could be accomplished.  Why aren’t we helping each other?

It’s because we take and we never give back.  In the lyrics of one of our songs, it says: “pay it forward, pass it on – it all started at the cross”.  Jesus is the reason – if you are truly a Christ Follower, and as a Christian, we are supposed to look to Jesus as an example to live our lives.  I don’t know of anyone that would give their lives so that another’s sins could be forgiven, but Jesus did.  How hard is it to give back to this world, when it’s only possible to do so because of a sacrifice that was made by the son of God?  I’m not waiting on anyone else.  Today I am tired of taking from this world.  Today I am giving back and I am doing this because God loved me so much that he gave his son.  Jesus loved me so much that he gave his life and I appreciate both of these acts of love so much that I’m going to give and together we can change this world!      Tommy Snyder

I am flying again. Not as far as the last few times I had time to write. I seem to find inspiration in the solitude of a flight. I can slow down and think about the things that really matter. My family, my church, my friends and what my Savior really means to me.

I am humbled when I search my mind and try to fathom why the creator of the universe pursues me with his love. You see I do believe that He created each of us in His image and He made each of us with unique skills, talents and abilities. He put it in us, but we have to seek what he embedded in each of us. How do we find it? We study the Word. We seek His attention in prayer and worship. To put it in a simple way- we ask Him.

I seem to ask Him for something constantly and I have to often stop, slow down and take time to listen. In younger days I thought prayer was a time for me to talk  to God. Only as I have grown older have I really understood it is also the best time to listen to God. I will pray and ask Him to reveal to me His direction for my life and then I stop and listen.

There is no lightning bolt, no thundering voice or blinding light. There is an assurance and a confidence that I have read His word, sought His counsel and listened for His direction. It may not be in an instant. It may take days, months or even longer. I have learned that God’s timing is God’s timing and my timing is my timing and the two are not necessarily in sync. Yet my experience has shown me I am far better off waiting on God than I am venturing out on my own….Kent Davis

In the Manner of Men, We All Have But One Life….

In the manner of men, we all have but one life.  That life is determined by the events that occur from the day that we are brought into this world and the hour that we are taken out.  Not so much as to the span of it all, but to the measure in which we have lived it.  So many things can be taken back through our Journey.  We can lose and regain our Faith, Our Honor, Our Wisdom and our Love, but most certainly we will never be able to regain the time that our Lord has given us.  It has passed and no action can be taken to change what is already behind us.  Some of us realize early enough that there is value in nothing but the time that we have.  While some concern themselves with the amassing of wealth and some with the excitement of the party, we find ourselves distracted by the brightness of what has been presented before us, only to have it ripped away like the carpet  that we stand on in Judgment.  That very distraction keeps us from realizing our true calling and our reason for passing through this world.  We are but a vapor to God, a whisper that is said so quickly that we are amazed at how fast our time is through.  One day we see ourselves in the mirror as young and capable and the next the lines of age become yet one more page that the story is written.  Some never see the age in their face, but meet our Lord in their youth, understanding the importance of what we here use up miserably and without true cause.  I have forgotten the care free feeling that comes from no responsibility that I knew as a child, but only because I have made my life harsh with all that I must do.  My diligence has tricked me into being a task master with myself being the cruelest judge as to my ability.  I have but one life and I above all other men have been responsible for the inability to enjoy it.  There are those seldom moments when I find excitement, but as is with all things that we find amusing, it is over quickly so that I am faced with the reality of what I have created as responsibility.  But a man must work to provide for his family and a man must be the one that suffers so that those around him can be taken care of.  This is what the world teaches us, so that we become harsh as our Fathers were harsh to us, so that our sons will be the martyr for his family, or not.  This is but a choice.  Jesus said, “Do Not Do What You Hate”, so why is it that we hope for Friday, four days a week wishing our very lives away, thinking that we will find happiness in the last two days of every week?  Why do we not take the time to love where we are now, and if we do not love where we are, change our circumstances so that we can start enjoying the time that will most certainly be used, never to be given back again?   There are no do overs; there are only changes that must be made so that the time that has passed can be looked upon as a perfect memory instead of a reflection of regret as we await our last days here in this world.  So, today I will love my children and I will cherish my wife.  I will not find fault in those around me so that I can gain a personal victory for myself.  I will laugh and I will enjoy what the Lord has given me.  1 Corinthians 13:13 says “And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love”.  Hope is for the future in which we have no control, Faith knows that although we have no control, our God has only our best interest in mind as long as we choose to serve him, but Love is for right now.  It is what we use to change all the circumstances that surround us, so that we can begin appreciating all that is before us.   I have Hope and I have my Faith, but today I will Love and by doing so I will change my life.  I will also be an example to those around me so that they may know the happiness that I have found.  In the manner of all men we have but one life and that life is determined by the love that we share from the day that we are brought into this world and the hour that we are taken out.

Snyder Davis has begun their Christmas Tour this year and will be playing at Center Point Church In North Richland Hills Texas this Sunday.

Their song “Wish Me A Merry Christmas” is all about remembering and keeping Jesus in Christmas this year.  While Tommy Snyder and Kent Davis are out fighting to keep Jesus in Christmas as the reason for the season, the Fort Worth Independent School District has declared “NO CHRISTMAS CELEBRATION” in school this year.

Robert Jeffress, the pastor of the First Baptist Church in Dallas, said it’s time for Christians to rise up and put a stop to what he called “political correctness gone awry.”

“America is a Christian nation,” Jeffress told Fox News & Commentary. “It’s time for Americans to stand up and push back against this increasing encroachment upon our First Amendment rights.

He called on Christians in Fort Worth to protest the school district’s policy.

“They need to pack the next school board meeting with Christians demanding this policy be reversed,” Jeffress said.

Following Jesus – Kent Davis

I have spent some time the last week or so reflecting on what it really means to follow Jesus. At times I have followed Him when it was convenient or easy for me. Sometimes it is easy to smile that smile and offer encouragement to our friends or family. We have done something for someone and that is good, right? What about when God is tugging us in a direction that we are not sure we want to go? It becomes a struggle of His will or mine. It comes back to what my Pastor teaches on a regular basis- who is running your life and how is it working?

I find that sometimes, as well intentioned as I may be, I can get in the way of where God is leading me. I am capable of learning and when I catch myself pushing or pulling life in one direction or another, I just need to stop and listen. You see when I seek discernment and clarity, He is there. It may not be the clouds opening with bolts of lightning and angelic choruses with a neon sign pointing the way. There is assurance and comfort. It may take longer than I want. God’s timing and my timing are not always in sync. He continues to prompt me to be patient.

You see God took me someplace this week that I did not want to go. It was a place out of my comfort zone. He took on a path to help someone who was lost. Can I measure the results and call this journey a success? I do not know. The hardest part for me is leaving the results to Him. You see we have to follow where He leads, to answer His call and to always be ready.

“One day as Jesus was walking along the shore of the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers—Simon, also called Peter, and Andrew—throwing a net into the water, for they fished for a living. Jesus called out to them, “Come, follow me, and I will show you how to fish for people!” And they left their nets at once and followed him.”  Matthew 4: 18-20
